Pretty easy to install, seems sturdy enough (though time will tell). This mounts to the walls permanently but can be removed quickly if needed. The door does not close automatically (which is the way I wanted it). The door opens slightly more than 90 degrees.

We’ve raised two kids, and now have two large dogs that we’ve gated to various areas of the house. We got two of these to gate off the entryway and a sitting room so they don’t rush visitors. They are absolutely perfect. They are well-designed to cover the various width openings described, and are sturdy even across the 72″ entryway. If you’ve dealt with other gates note that these don’t friction-fit – you MUST screw them into the wall. They come with screws and plastic anchors – everything you need is in the box except for a drill to drill pilot holes and a philips head screwdriver. Installation was easy – maybe 30 minutes total per gate? The mounting installation is exceptionally well-engineered to make it easy for one person to get the gate set up. The wall anchors are also designed well so that you can take the gate down quickly leaving the wall mounts in place unobtrusively. The gate latch is a little clicky at first, but it’s settled in fine and nobody in the family has a problem with it except the dogs, which was of course the intent. They look *very* nice and have met with the approval of the Mrs.CAUTION: It’s the nature of gates like this that there’s a bar across the bottom of the gate opening. If you have dark floors, the dark metal bar is a serious trip hazard. This is not the fault of the manufacturer – just a reality of the way these gates work. I bought fluorescent tape and wrapped several strips across the bottom bar, which pretty much solves the problem. I recommend Polyken 510-Neon Premium Fluorescent Gaffers Tape: 2 in. x 75 ft. (Fluorescent Orange) – it’s easy to work with, bright, and sticks very well.

The gate does the job, but it is a little more difficult to open and close than I had hoped. The gate latch difficulty can be adjusted by making sure your gate is installed perfectly straight and aligned… Which took us forever, but we ended up being able to open/close with one hand. It’s just heavy metal so it’s not going to glide like a wood or plastic one. That being said, it’s very fancy and I love the look of it. We use it for our dog because he chewed through our wood one. One helpful hint- if you are installing on hard floors, leave an inch or so below for sweeping. Dirt collects under the gate!

I went with this gate because I have 2 entryways that are each 76″, so I needed 2, and everything else for that size was nearly double the price.Where do I begin?Right out of the box, the first thing I noticed is that the wood was literally cut and put together. It’s not sanded well, not treated at all, and theres even shaving pieces poking put from all the places where its pre-done. I have a 10month old escape artist, and did not have time to sand and treat the whole thing before putting it up, especially since I had 2!Next issue, the directions are basic but manageable. For something that needs to be sturdy and bolted into the wall, they do not include any anchors. Luckily, I’m handy and already had some left over. Now let’s get to installation. I managed, but let me tell you, if you don’t have a power drill, this will be hard as heck to drill a hole. I don’t have one, so I borrowed one.Once I had it assembled and the screw eyes bolted into the wall, it’s time to latch it! *sigh* You have to first hook it into the bottom eye, then squeeze the locking latch to hook onto the top eye. This mechanism is not the best. It’s hard for anyone that doesn’t have great dexterity, such as my 6yo or my elderly m.i.l.Now its installed. It wobbles like crazy. My baby can make tons of noise by shaking the heck out of it, and the parts that allow it to expand slide around and nearly trap her fingers!Overall I am greatly disappointed in this, but couldn’t afford to buy 2 of anything of better quality due to the significantly higher prices.

This gate is a champ honestly! I wasn’t sure what to expect for the price but it’s great!! I have a almost 1 year old who is crawling and pulling herself up on things and this gate is withstanding the crazy shaking lol. My husband when installing was able to find a stud to secure the gate but if you cant find one I highly recommend using anchors because they will just rip out of the wall if you don’t. I love that this gate is short enough to walk over but perfect height for the baby still. I also love it can open from either side and can swivel in different directions! Very happy with this purchase!!

This gate is pretty much just 2 sliding wooden child gates with some metal brackets to join them together. As such, don’t expect them to be rock solid or to stand up to any sort of violent breaching attempt by a determined child/pet. But as a reminder to (for example) not go up a wide staircase or into a formal dining room, this gate is perfect. You can mount one or both ends either permanently, to swing, or to release and slide/retract, and the way it is set up you can retract either or both of the outer panels. The quality is fine, nothing fancy and it does rattle a bit and has no roller sliders for the sliding part, but it does the job. It is also fairly lightweight so it can be easily moved by one person.

Hello fellow shoppers. I rarely get excited about a product when I leave a review but this is the exception. I was looking for a pet gate for our two furry friends and nothing really caught my attention. Thanks to the person who left a review about a gate she/he did not like and mentioned the North States pet gate. I did some more research and found it on Amazon, and purchased a “used like new” gate at significant savings. The gate arrived at 6:30 am, well before the 8 pm projected delivery time, delivered by the USPS. It was in an unopened box, protected by the shipping box. All the pieces were inside undamaged. Understand that the installation requires mounting the hardware the gate is attached to more or less permanently by drilling into drywall, or moulding on the bottom. There are two templates included for the top and bottom brackets on each side of the gate. These must be lined up exactly for the door to function properly. The reason for the four star rating is because the supplied screws are way to long and there were no drywall anchors included. I purchase some extra at Home Depot to ensure the mounting brackets stayed in the wall. I used the supplied screws to attach the bottom brackets to the floor moulding. The gate works as intended and will keep the little guys safe in a confined area when we leave the house. Oh, I forgot to mention the gate is metal, not wood or plastic. Hope this helps in your decision making.

THE BEST FEATURE of this gate is it’s design— it fits across non-aligned walls (e.g. at the top of the stairs) and other angled spaces better that other gates that are also advertised as doing so. The entire length of the gate I intend to replace with this once must be swung open to go through it. This one has a conventional opening door flanked by sides that can be moved to the desired angles, so once it’s in place, it’s easy to open and close it.THE BIGGEST ISSUES with this gate are:(1) It states that it’s designed for a max toddler age of 2 years old, when it’s pretty common to want to guard against kids 3 years and older having access to the stairs;(2) it is designed to be installed only on walls that are flat where they meet the floor, so if you have any trim at the bottom of your wall, you’ll have to make some pretty big adjustments that aren’t part of the instructions; and(3) the instructions specifically state that it’s not intended to be installed into plaster walls.I plan to contact the manufacturer to see why they say not to use it with plaster walls (as my current gate is so installed using anchors), and how they came up with the child age limit. If I’m satisfied that these won’t be issues that ultimately impair the gate’s safe use, I plan to get to work figuring out how to cut/remove the trim where needed to finish installation.

Seems this product has undergone some revisions and a lot of reviews are out of date. In short, the lower brackets can now be adjusted inward to accommodate installation in areas with base molding. To open you have to both push the button on top and flex the gate upward and off of a locking stud. So it’s pretty well toddler proof. If opened 90 degrees it stays open, otherwise gently springs closed. The bottom is all vinyl parts that glide smoothly on wood floors (no exposed screws or other sharp metal. Shouldn’t hurt your floor even though it flexes and moves around a bit. Soft wood floors might still have a problem… you’ll know if you have soft wood thoug because it’s already full of dents. The screws are still cheap so you might use longer and better ones and you better find studs to install into if not installing in a framed opening. As others mention, ignore the installation paper guide and install by placing the brackets on the gate and the gate against the wall while resting on the floor to mark the holes. It’s very attractive for what it is. Nice finish (powder coated? metal). We might keep it even after the kids grow up as it keeps the dogs away from our front door.
