I actually purchased this monitor for my parents. After my dad’s second fall outside and my mother not hearing him yell for her while she was inside, I thought this might be a good solution. I read the reviews on several different devices and ultimately went with this one. We are very very pleased with this monitor! They keep one outside on the back porch and one inside. The sound quality is fantastic and very clear! I cannot believe how much and how far away you can hear with this. We did several tests to make sure this would work for their needs and with over an acre of land, while standing as far back on the property as we could, the sounds of yelling for help were loud and clear!!!

No babies in the house, but I bought this for my parents to use as an intercom monitoring system. My parents have a large, ranch style house and my father is recently home from a lengthy hospital and rehab facility stay. I live out of state and cannot be here with my parents full time. The purpose of this monitor was so we could leave the “baby” unit in their bedroom/bathroom, one “parent” unit out in the living areas, and the other parent unit in the kitchen. This way my mom can go about her day without having to run back and forth checking on my dad.We were initially loaned a unit from a friend which didn’t have the talk back capability. Although this helped my mom keep tabs on my dad, if she heard something, she couldn’t respond without physically running into their bedroom. The “talk back” capability of this unit is what makes this so very handy. If my mom hears my dad moving around, she doesn’t have to run into the bedroom to check on him – – – she can just use the monitor to ask “do you need anything?”. Since the “baby” unit is the one in their bedroom, he doesn’t have to physically have the baby unit in hand – – – he just needs to speak and say he’s okay, or ask for help getting dressed. Both parent units are press-to-talk (not open communication), which means they always receive sounds transmitted from the baby unit, but in order to talk to the baby, you have to press-to-talk. Very helpful because if mom is watching tv, listening to music, chatting on the phone etc, there is no worry that any of those sounds in the living areas are being broadcast to the baby unit in their bedroom. The baby base unit reception is incredibly strong. We placed it between their bedroom and their attached master bathroom. It picks up sounds from both bedroom and bathroom amazingly (and sometimes embarrassingly) well.Cannot vouch for the battery life of the parent units, but they easily last several hours, which has been more than sufficient for my mom’s use. She takes it with her when she’s working out in their garden, and doesn’t worry about running in every so often to check on my dad. And, because little things also mean a lot, bonus stars because these units are discreet and don’t visually scream out that they’re baby monitors. On top of his medical issues, my dad’s pride has also taken a hit with his recent dependency needs. If these screamed out that they were for babies, that would be another smack to his pride. We’ve been calling them portable intercoms, and thus, no dignity issues. The baby unit is about the size of a large lemon, and the parent units are about the size of a small avocado. All of them easily just sit on a counter or table without calling attention to themselves.Super helpful, extremely clear strong transmission. Highly recommended for any household – – -babies and adults alike.

We have been using this model with my son for over a year without issue, so when it came time to register for our new baby we asked for the same monitor. Unfortunately it is completely defective. The monitor comes “un-linked” every night without fail. Sometimes it will stay linked for only an hour, sometimes for several hours. Never has it stayed linked through the night and even if we can get it to re-link it becomes un-linked again in short order. We have tried changing the location of the monitors, distance between monitor and receiver, and power cycling the monitor. It is extraordinarily frustrating to be woken in the middle of the night, every night by a defective monitor. We have actually had to switch to a different brand because this one is so consistently unreliable. I would never recommend this. The Graco monitor that we have been using in place of this one has been great.

Mine catches so much static we can barely use it at night because it’s annoying so we have to turn it down with the static and then I toss and turn all night because I’m worried about not herring my baby. Lose Lose

I ordered this as a replacement after my cheap but reliable monitor from Walmart broke after several years of constant use. I regret the purchase of this monitor and plan to find another cheap monitor from Walmart. This monitor cuts in and out for several seconds up to about 20 seconds at a time when there is constant sound such as music in my baby’s room. Since there is no static or white noise, I’m not sure if/when it is working when my baby’s room doesn’t have background sound. I’m not sure if this is normal, but based on other reviews, it must be common. I wish I would have read more reviews rather than looking at the average review. DON’t BUY THIS MONITOR.

Inside the package are three things: the camera, the monitor, and documentation (+ power/charging cables). The monitor is already pre-configured to auto-pair with the camera once both are turned on, so connecting them was super simple.I’ve included a lot of pictures of the unit itself as well as the room I tested it in + images directly from the monitor as I tested it out. You’ll notice that the level of detail is fairly good, not 4k or even HD, but if you’re using this to monitor your baby it will be plenty sufficient I feel. The camera rotates and pans and has a pretty good range, so as long as you position it correctly without any obstruction, you’ll get good visibility into the space you have it. I put the camera unit on the floor just to test it out, but could get as high as the ceiling on the opposite side of the room by tilting upward. From the monitor you have the ability to hit ‘zoom’ to get a closer view. There is the standard view, then a closer view by hitting ‘zoom’ and then an even closer view by hitting ‘zoom’ again. The images I have attached should show you the difference between all three levels. The audio works fairly well, though if you are too close by you’ll hear feedback. You do have the option to turn it off if you don’t want it. You can also intercom into the camera units speaker to speak to whomever is in the room with the camera, it works well for a basic voice but don’t expect to sing a lullaby from the other room (you could but it wouldn’t do your voice justice).I should note that the camera automatically shifts to night mode if it’s not getting enough light. You’ll notice this in the pictures of the bookshelf that are in black and white. They were taken at the exact same time as the other pictures when there was plenty of light coming into the room, but the camera was not positioned facing the light when it points to the bookshelf. Once I panned the camera toward the painting and my dumbbell rack it received enough light from the window on that side of the room to automatically switch out of night mode and back to full color. From the monitor you are able to hear a little motor noise when panning/tilting the camera, though it’s quiet enough in the room where the camera actually is that it would be unobtrusive. All in all, a great investment and super easy to use. Would recommend to others, and considering purchasing another camera unit to pair with the same monitor unit (yes, you can add additional cameras).

I bought this baby monitor and I really like it so I decided to leave review.1. DesignWhen I first opened the box, I was amazed how well it was designed. It almost felt like unboxing some Apple product. It was clean white color with minimal details. I know you tend to really not care about the design when you buy baby products but I did enjoy the design of it.2. VisionAs you can see resolution is really high for monitoring baby. I can see so much details clearly both day and night. First photo was taken during daylight and second photo was during midnight. As you can see in day time, vision is so clear with all the color correctly. At night time also, I can see everything clear. I was surprised how it can catch it so well without any light source. It catches sound crisp as well, so you know exactly what is going on in the room. You can also talk to your baby in another room. That function was very helpful for us when the baby is alone in his room. We can sooth him easily with our voice when he wake up so we don’t have to go to the room every time which was really convenient. You can also change angle a lot so you can check every angle of the room. And manipulating the camera is super easy. It is like a joystick.3. UsabilityThis is actually my favorite part of this product for me. Setting was so easy like a breeze. I was almost couldn’t believe how easy it was. I just turned on both screen and camera and that was it. There was no mess up like other products. Moreover, controlling is so easy as well. Menus were straight forward and user friendly. You are not gonna misunderstand anything. Everything is so easy with this product. My husband is normally horrible with those gadgets but he was able to use it straight away which means a lot.Overall I hope there is wireless function and application for mobile so you can use it as a CCTV when your baby is with a babysitter or somebody else. Except that, I am 100% satisfied!

Disappointed with this purchase over all. The cost is much lower now than when we purchased it, but still too high for what you get. First disappointment is the base itself does not have a battery back up, so if the power goes out the whole system is dead in the water. Second disappointment is the battery life in the two parental units is short so best to keep them plugged in. Third disappointment is base loses contact or unlinks from parental units at around 500’, not even close to the “up to 1000 mentioned”. Forth disappointment is the parental units can not be silenced in that the menu select feature beeps no matter what you do. It will power on an off without beeping, but if you want to make any other monitor select changes like volume or the like, the unit has a rather loud annoying beep that will in fact disturb the resting so be sure all your settings are adjusted before sleepy time. (You can set the units on silent or vibrate notification so the lights alert you of sound or motions in monitored room, but the menu select feature beep is not mutable)

The VTech DM221 I purchased does exactly what it is intended to do. Unfortunately I was trying to think outside the box and use it for something slightly different. My wife relies on oxygen 24 hours a day and she had experienced two occasions where the O2 generating system started beeping indicating something was wrong. She sleeps with the TV on pretty loudly because of a hearing problem and since I sleep in a different BR I thought possibly the monitor would detect the beeping and alert me of a problem. The sensitivity of the DM221 is so good that I heard the TV too much and when I placed the monitor at the base of the O2 generator it picked up the unit cycling on and off. I got around this unwanted problem by lowering the levels on the monitor and on the receiver. This helped but was still almost too sensitive for me to sleep. The 02 generator has not malfunctioned yet but the transmitter did record a beeping from an alert on the TV which woke me up causing me to check on my wife. I am using it in that capacity and it would be working satisfactory for that purpose if she did not insist on having the TV on all night at a higher than normal volume. So I have no negative things to say about the VTech DM221.

I never write reviews, but after all the research I put into this I thought I should. After reading reviews online and on websites and watching YouTube videos for about a week I finally decided to order this monitor. The reviews however on this are not great throughout the different websites but I often wonder how picky are the people who leave reviews and do they consider themselves some sort of critic? So I wanted to let everyone know that I am just a mom of two babies and my goals for this monitor were to be able to see both of my children as their rooms are across the house from us. I wanted a split screen, I wanted audio for both cameras, everything included, and I wanted a long range monitor. And with this monitor I got all of those things. My favorite feature of this monitor would have to be the timed screening of the cameras. So I can have the camera switch back-and-forth about every seven seconds and that comes the full screen view and audio as well. I also did not measure the yardage but I took this monitor down the street to the other side of my neighbors house and made it almost 1/2 a block before I lost signal.

Will be returning. Super fuzzy in night vision!Biggest thing though: When in split screen mode, you can only have audio for 1 camera at a time which is understandable but it doesn’t scan between the two, and there is no noise notification/alert if sound is detected in the other room. So unless you’re staring at the screen in split view, there is no way to tell if the baby on the other camera is fussing/crying. Completely pointless feature without the audio scan, or at least an alert.

It is difficult to find a good baby monitor because there are so many opposite reviews for the same product, and it is really subjective. I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews of this one. There is no perfect monitor and like all electronics I’m sure some have received “lemons”. For me, this monitor is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a monitor that had a remotely rotating camera, 2-way talk function, split screen, automatic screen shut off, scan function, great range, and a large screen. This one does all that and more! The instructions are a little vague but it’s easy to figure it out if you just mess around with it for a few minutes. Paired right away, so far the battery is fine, but I’ve only had it for a week so I can’t speak to longevity. I plug it in over the night so I have no issues and I have full battery throughout the day, even when used for 2 nap cycles. Also, the range on the monitor is amazing, my home office is on the opposite side of our largish house from the kids bedrooms and I have full signal. It also works while I’m outside. If I had any complaint it would be that when you first click the “screen on” button a bright white screen with the Motorola symbol comes on before the image of your child’s room, which can be a little bright when you are checking over the night…otherwise I really love it, and am really glad I went with it despite the all over the place reviews.

We just opened up our monitor system and set up the cameras today. We have two children. (A toddler and a baby). So far it seems great and we love the split screen setting. The only thing we don’t like is the fact that audio only plays out of one side at a time. This means that if we are tuned it to our baby’s side of the screen (we probably often will be) and our toddler wakes up from a nightmare, we won’t be alerted AT ALL. It’s a bit disappointing considering we just spent $140 to be able to watch over both of them, not just one. We replaced our single camera system for this one. Luckily our toddler doesn’t wake up often but this is a disappointment nonetheless. Wish I would’ve seen that before we bought it. My fault for not reading the description of the product carefully enough. Otherwise the camera seems great so far.

This is the 3rd time I’ve changed my review for this product. The first review was a rave review, I LOVED everything about it. But then it died in less than a year so I changed my review to include my disappointment. I contacted the company to let them know and they tried to trouble shoot but nothing seemed to work. The company is now sending me a replacement. They were very quick to respond. So basically it is an excellent monitor that I had an issue with but the company was quick to fix it and send me a new one. You’ll be very pleased with the monitor and their customer service should you need them!

My number one priority when looking for a monitor was that it was not WiFi (for security reasons) but had a good range. This monitor has an amazing range! I’m able to sit by the pool while the kiddos are napping and still get a perfect signal. The picture quality is good, though not as good as some other monitors I’ve used. However, I personally prefer a slightly lower quality picture with a long range than a monitor with a great picture but short range. Would definitely recommend.
